Madoka Magica Sequel Film To Unveil A New Release Date On February After The Delay

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising faces yet another delay. The eagerly awaited sequel film, previously expected to arrive in February 2026, has been pushed back due to ongoing production challenges. Rather than a premiere this month, fans can look forward to an official announcement of the updated release date in February instead.

First unveiled in April 2021, the movie was initially targeting a winter 2024 launch. It was later rescheduled to winter 2025, with fresh trailers still dropping as recently as December 2025.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie is a trilogy of Japanese dark fantasy action animated films produced by Aniplex and Shaft, adapted from the acclaimed 2011 television anime series of the same name.

The initial two installmentsโ€”Beginnings and Eternalโ€”premiered in October 2012. These films retell the events of the original TV series, featuring refreshed voice performances and a significant amount of newly produced animation.

The third entry, Rebellion, stands apart as an entirely original story continuation and was distributed theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures in October 2013.

A manga version, drawn by Hanokage, was published by Houbunsha from November 2013 to January 2014. In North America, the films are handled by Aniplex of America.

Rebellion earned a nomination for Animation of the Year at the Japan Academy Prize and took home the Best Theatrical Film Award at the 19th Animation Kobe Awards.

A direct sequel to Rebellion, titled Walpurgisnacht: Rising, is scheduled to debut in February 2026.
