Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie is a trilogy of Japanese dark fantasy action animated films produced by Aniplex and Shaft, adapted from the acclaimed 2011 television anime series of the same name.
The initial two installments—Beginnings and Eternal—premiered in October 2012. These films retell the events of the original TV series, featuring refreshed voice performances and a significant amount of newly produced animation.
The third entry, Rebellion, stands apart as an entirely original story continuation and was distributed theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures in October 2013.
A manga version, drawn by Hanokage, was published by Houbunsha from November 2013 to January 2014. In North America, the films are handled by Aniplex of America.
Rebellion earned a nomination for Animation of the Year at the Japan Academy Prize and took home the Best Theatrical Film Award at the 19th Animation Kobe Awards.
A direct sequel to Rebellion, titled Walpurgisnacht: Rising, is scheduled to debut in February 2026.
