On Thursday, Square Enix’s G Fantasy magazine shared via its official X account that the manga Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, crafted by the talented Iro Aida, will temporarily halt publication due to Aida’s unexpected health concerns, the series will skip a new chapter in the magazine’s August issue, set for release on July 18.
Fans can look forward to the manga’s return in the September issue, hitting shelves on August 18.
Crafted by the creative duo AidaIro—writer Iro and artist Aida—this captivating Japanese manga, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, has been enchanting readers in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy since its debut in 2014. As of June 2025, the series spans 24 tankōbon volumes. The story centers on Nene Yashiro, a spirited high school freshman with a passion for supernatural tales and a longing for romance. Her quest for love leads her to summon Hanako-san, a mysterious spirit tied to a school bathroom.
Licensed for North American audiences by Yen Press, the manga has also inspired a vibrant anime adaptation by Lerche, which first aired from January to March 2020. In December 2022, a fresh anime project was unveiled, described as a “reboot” of the series. This initiative kicked off with After-School Hanako-kun, a spin-off that ran from October to November 2023, followed by a four-episode sequel in October 2024. The main series’ second season aired from January to March 2025, with its second cours slated for July 2025.
By February 2024, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun boasted over 10 million copies in circulation, a testament to its widespread appeal.
