On Friday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the lineup of films qualified for the 2026 Oscars in the Animated Feature, International Feature, and Documentary Feature categories.
Out of the 35 entries vying for Animated Feature, the following anime productions and films tied to Japanese media stand out:
- Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara at studio MAPPA
- ChaO, helmed by director Yasuhiro Aoki from Studio 4°C
- COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, crafted by director Hiroyuki Hata and studio P.A. Works
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, brought to life by director Haruo Sotozaki at studio ufotable
- Dragon Heart – Adventures Beyond This World, overseen by director Isamu Imakake of HS Pictures Studio
- 100 Meters (Hyakuemu), led by director Kenji Iwaisawa from studio ROCK’N ROLL MOUNTAIN
- Scarlet, envisioned by director Mamoru Hosoda at Studio Chizu
