Girls und Panzer das Finale[a] serves as a six-part Japanese anime film series that continues the story from Girls und Panzer (2012) and Girls und Panzer der Film (2015). Crafted by Actas and handled for distribution by Showgate, this installment is helmed by director Tsutomu Mizushima, with screenplay duties by Reiko Yoshida, and boasts a returning ensemble cast from earlier franchise entries.
At its heart, the series tracks the Ōarai Girls’ Academy students as they rally to support Momo Kawashima’s university admission goals through victory in the Winter Continuous Track Cup. Miho Nishizumi steps down to Vice-Commander, handing the leadership reins to Momo, propelling Ōarai to triumphs over BC Freedom Academy, Chihatan Gakuen, and Keizoku High School en route to the championship clash with St. Gloriana Girls’ College—now bolstered by the arrival of transfer student Alice Shimada.
The franchise’s follow-up endeavor received the go-ahead in August 2016. Initially hinted at as a single feature in September 2016, it was later unveiled as a multi-film saga spanning six chapters come November. The opening installment wrapped production just four days ahead of its December 2017 debut. Later that same month, Mizushima dove into the second film, finalizing it by June 2019. Work on the third persisted into May 2020 amid the COVID-19 challenges, reaching completion in March 2021. The fourth film’s development kicked off in April 2021, concluding in September 2023, at which point Mizushima shifted focus to the fifth entry.
To date, four chapters of the Girls und Panzer das Finale lineup have hit Japanese theaters starting in 2017: Part 1 on December 9, 2017; Part 2 on June 15, 2019; Part 3 on March 26, 2021; and Part 4 on October 6, 2023.
