Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a 2019 action-adventure title crafted by FromSoftware. Launched in Japan by FromSoftware and globally by Activision, it arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows in March 2019, with a Stadia release following in October 2020.
You play as Wolf, a skilled shinobi on a mission to save his master, only to find himself entangled in the struggle for Ashina’s destiny. The game emphasizes stealth, exploration, and intense combat, with a spotlight on challenging boss encounters. Set in a reimagined Sengoku-era Japan, it weaves in deep ties to Buddhist mythology and philosophical themes. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki aimed to forge a fresh intellectual property, distinct from the Dark Souls series, focusing on a ninja-centric narrative rooted in Japanese culture. The project drew inspiration from FromSoftware’s historical connection to the Tenchu series, sparking the creation of this unique shinobi experience.
