Nippon Sangoku is a Japanese manga series created by Ikka Matsuki, who both writes and illustrates the work. The series began its run in November 2021 through Shogakukanโ€™s Ura Sunday platform and the MangaONE app. An anime television adaptation by Studio Kafka has been announced and is scheduled to debut in April 2026.

Story Overview:

As the Reiwa era draws to a close, Japan suffers catastrophic fallout from nuclear conflicts erupting across the globe. Waves of refugees pour into the country, only to be followed by a lethal virus and a massive earthquake. With the nation poorly governed, authorities impose crushing taxes, triggering widespread famine. Public anger eventually explodes into a full-scale uprising that topples the central government. By the end of the chaos, Japanโ€™s population has dwindled to just one-tenth of its former size, technological progress has regressed to Meiji-era levels, and the land fractures into three rival states: Yamato, Takeo, and Seii. A century later, a man named Aoteru Misumi rises to lead an effort aimed at restoring unity to the divided nation.
