Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed on Wednesday that the light novel series Witch and Mercenary by Kaeru Chōhōkiteki is set to receive an anime adaptation.
The series is scheduled to premiere on NTV in 2027.

Witch and Mercenary is a Japanese light novel series written by Kaeru Chōhōkiteki and illustrated by Bench Kanase. It originally started serialization on the user-generated novel platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in June 2021. The series was later picked up by Micro Magazine, which began releasing it under their GCN Bunko imprint in May 2023. A manga adaptation illustrated by Makoto Miyagi launched on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website in January 2024.
The story is set on the Old Continent, where witches are feared as dangerous wielders of magic and are relentlessly hunted. Mercenary Zig Crane accepts a job to participate in one such witch hunt. However, after clashing with the witch Saoirse and fighting her to a draw, the two unexpectedly connect. They realize they are alike — both shaped into killers by the harsh world they live in. Recognizing that they have no real future on the Old Continent, Saoirse hires Zig to escort her to the New Continent, a land where magic is commonplace and accepted. Yet upon arrival, they discover a surprising reversal: this seemingly peaceful country has no need for mercenaries and instead looks down on them. Now, with their roles flipped, can Zig and Saoirse find a way to adapt and build a new life in this unfamiliar environment?
