Bless is a Japanese manga created by Yukino Sonoyama, who handles both the writing and illustrations. The series launched in Kodansha’s shōnen magazine Shōnen Magazine Edge in January 2022. Following the magazine’s conclusion in October 2023, it shifted to Monthly Shōnen Sirius starting in December 2023. A television anime adaptation, produced by A-1 Pictures, is scheduled to debut in 2027.
The story unfolds at Aoiyama High, a prestigious school that nurtures aspiring talents in entertainment and beauty industries. First-year student Aia Udagawa secretly dreams of becoming a makeup artist, but he hides his passion after past dismissals made him doubt his abilities. His classmate Jun Sumisaki harbors ambitions of modeling, yet she conceals them due to her shy personality and self-consciousness about her freckles, which don’t align with how others perceive her.
When the pair is assigned to the same team for their school’s prestigious Aoi Con Festival—a major student-run runway event—Aia steps into the role of stylist while Jun becomes the model. Through mutual support and encouragement, they build a deep connection, finding the strength to open up about their true selves and pursue their goals with newfound confidence.
After their triumphant performance at Aoi Con, Aia catches the attention of Hikaru “Daiya” Oya, a renowned model and accomplished hair/makeup artist whom Aia greatly admires and shares a personal tie with. Daiya invites Aia to enroll in Mirror, an innovative makeup academy founded by Daiya and his fellow professionals, where Aia can hone his talents alongside other students and interact with industry experts.
Meanwhile, Jun actively seeks modeling opportunities, leading to further teamwork with Aia and drawing interest from seasoned figures in fashion. United, Aia and Jun confront the industry’s rigid beauty ideals, challenge societal expectations, and prove that dedication and skill can triumph in a world that often prioritizes innate talent over perseverance.
