Kaiju No. 8 is a captivating Japanese manga crafted by writer and artist Naoya Matsumoto. Launched in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ digital platform, the series has been compiled into 15 tankōbon volumes as of March 2025. Shueisha also brings the series to global readers through its Manga Plus app in English and multiple other languages. Viz Media has been releasing digital versions since August 2020 and physical editions in North America starting in December 2021.

Kaiju No. 8 manga ended with its 129th chapter.

The narrative centers on Kafka Hibino, a man whose life takes a dramatic turn after he accidentally consumes a parasitic entity, granting him the power to transform into a kaiju. Now, Kafka must balance his newfound abilities while pursuing his dream of joining a kaiju-exterminating organization, driven by a heartfelt vow made to a childhood friend. Conceived in late 2018, Kaiju No. 8 marks Matsumoto’s second venture with Shueisha. Drawing inspiration from tokusatsu classics like Ultraman, the series also weaves in the author’s personal experiences navigating the challenges of the manga industry, shaping Kafka’s compelling backstory.
