Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, bringing the beloved story to life in a new Korean series. Rising star Byeon Woo-seok will step into the role of Sung Jinwoo, the determined protagonist.
The announcement was accompanied by a striking photo of Byeon Woo-seok, showcasing his readiness to embody the iconic character. Netflix also introduced the key creative team driving the project, setting high expectations for this thrilling adaptation.
The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling, produced by A-1 Pictures, draws its story from the popular webtoon. Its debut season aired for 12 episodes between January and April 2024, featuring key staff like director Shunsuke Nakashige, character designer Tomoko Sudo, music composer Hiroyuki Sawano, and series composer Noboru Kimura.
The follow-up, Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise From the Shadow, spanned 13 episodes, airing from January to March 2025.
The tale kicked off as a web novel called Only I Level Up, penned by the pseudonymous author Chugong. It debuted in 2016, unfolding chapter by chapter on South Korea’s digital platform KakaoPage.
By 2018, the story transformed into a webtoon, a mobile-friendly digital comic, crafted by REDICE Studio, a South Korean outfit celebrated for its top-tier manhwa. The vivid artwork was brought to life by Jang Sung-rak, widely recognized under his alias DUBU.
