Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Sequel Blooms as 2-Part Anime Special

The Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin universe is blooming once again! Fans of the charming harvest goddess and her rice-powered adventures have exciting news: the long-awaited sequel has been officially revealed as a two-part TV anime special.

Titled “Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – Kokorowa’s Rice Cultivation Diary” (or Tensui no Sakuna-hime: Kokorowa Inasaku Nisshi in Japanese), this special adapts the 2021 sequel novel by Keiji Ando. It shifts the spotlight to Kokorowa-hime, who takes on the rewarding (and challenging) journey of rice farming herself.

Here are the key release details that have the community buzzing:

  • Part 1 premieres on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 16:45 JST
  • Part 2 follows one week later on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the same time

The special will air on TV Tokyo and its affiliate networks in Japan, with worldwide streaming expected on platforms like Crunchyroll shortly after (following the pattern of the original series).

Director Masayuki Yoshihara returns to helm the project at P.A. Works, promising the same breathtaking visuals that made the 2024 TV series a standout — think lush rice paddies glowing under golden sunlight, intricate mechanical designs, and fluid action sequences blended with peaceful, meditative farming moments.

This continuation builds beautifully on the foundation laid by the original game and anime. While Sakuna’s story taught us that “rice is power” through hard work, growth, and a touch of divine mischief, this special appears to explore fresh themes of legacy, responsibility, and passing the torch — all wrapped in the franchise’s signature mix of yokai battles and authentic agricultural simulation.

Whether you’re a longtime fan who harvested every grain in the original game, fell in love with the 13-episode anime series, or are just discovering this wholesome gem now — these two specials are shaping up to be the perfect bite-sized yet heartfelt extension of the story.
