JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga crafted by the creative mind of Hirohiko Araki. Initially launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1987, it ran until 2004 before shifting to the monthly seinen magazine Ultra Jump in 2005. The saga unfolds across nine distinct story arcs, each spotlighting a unique protagonist carrying the iconic “JoJo” moniker. As Shueisha’s most extensive ongoing manga, it has amassed 136 tankōbon volumes by December 2024.
Between 1993 and 2002, A.P.P.P. brought the manga’s third arc, Stardust Crusaders, to life with a 13-episode original video animation (OVA). Later, the studio adapted the first arc, Phantom Blood, into an anime film that hit Japanese theaters in February 2007. In October 2012, David Production debuted an anime TV series on Tokyo MX, covering Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. By December 2022, the studio had released five seasons, totaling 190 episodes and encompassing the manga’s sixth arc, Stone Ocean. In April 2025, an anime adaptation of the seventh arc, Steel Ball Run, was officially revealed. Additionally, a live-action take on the fourth arc, Diamond Is Unbreakable, directed by Takashi Miike, premiered in Japan in August 2017.
