In a cinematic year packed with emotional gut-punches, high-stakes dramas, and genre-bending spectacles, Letterboxd—the go-to haven for film enthusiasts—has dropped its highly anticipated 2025 Year in Review. Shared via an electrifying X post from @letterboxd, the announcement spotlights the “Highest Rated Overall” films, based on millions of user ratings. Topping the chart? None other than the adrenaline-fueled anime adaptation Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, a visceral explosion of action and heart that has fans buzzing. This isn’t just a win for manga lovers; it’s a bold statement on how animation is reshaping the film landscape, outpacing live-action heavyweights in raw emotional investment.
Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc clocks in at a stellar 4.4 average rating, praised for its “restless energy” that amps up every scene into an addictive spark. Sharing the top spot at 4.4 is The Voice of Hind Rajab, helmed by Kaouther Ben Hania—a poignant blend of real-world interaction and narrative mastery that confronts ongoing global realities with unflinching humanity. As one reviewer notes, it’s a profound demonstration of the medium’s power, where fiction cedes to stark truth.

Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga crafted by Tatsuki Fujimoto, both written and illustrated by him. The initial arc ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from December 2018 to December 2020, while the second arc kicked off in July 2022 on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ digital platform. As of July 2025, the series has been compiled into 21 tankōbon volumes.
The narrative of Chainsaw Man centers on Denji, a young man struggling with poverty who forms a pact that merges his body with Pochita, a canine-like Chainsaw Devil, giving him the power to turn parts of his body into chainsaws. Denji later becomes a member of the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a government organization tasked with confronting Devils that pose a danger to Japan. In the second arc, the focus shifts to Asa Mitaka, a high schooler who forms a contract with Yoru, the War Devil, compelling her to pursue Chainsaw Man to retrieve what he took from her.
In North America, Viz Media holds the English license for the manga, releasing it in both physical and digital formats, while Shueisha also makes it available on the Manga Plus online platform. An anime adaptation, produced by MAPPA, aired from October to December 2022.
