TO Books revealed on Wednesday that an anime adaptation has been officially green-lit for Mizuki Nagano‘s light novel series The Person I Loved Asked Me to Die in My Sister’s Stead.
The announcement marks a significant step forward for this emotionally intense story, which has already built a dedicated following through its print volumes, manga serialization, drama CD, and audiobook releases. Fans can look forward to seeing the complex relationships and heartbreaking sacrifices of the original work brought to life on screen.

The Person I Loved Asked Me to Die in My Sister’s Stead is a Japanese light novel series authored by Mizuki Nagano [ja] and illustrated by Saori Toyota [ja].
Originally serialized as a web novel on the user-generated platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō from November 2020 until September 2022, the work was later picked up for print publication by TO Books. Since September 2021, the publisher has released seven main volumes along with a collection of short stories. Following the conclusion of the web serialization in October 2022, the original online version on Shōsetsuka ni Narō became unavailable.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Maki Yamori [ja] began serialization in June 2022 on TO Books’ Corona EX manga website. As of now, five tankōbon volumes have been published by TO Books. The English-language edition of the manga launched in July 2024 under Tokyopop.
Additional media expansions include a drama CD scripted by the original author Mizuki Nagano, which was released in August 2024. The Japanese audiobook version also debuted on Audible, with the first volume narrated by Haruka Kajiyama [ja].
An anime television adaptation of the series has been officially announced.
