High School! Kimengumi Comedy franchise recently confirmed a new anime based on the manga with the same (High School! Funny-Face Club) is on the way confirmed for January 2026.

The comedic series revolves around a quintet of eccentric and zany high schoolers, dubbed the Kimengumi within the school’s corridors, who form a tight-knit bond with the most adorable girl on campus and her closest companion. While the source manga took place during the 1980s, the upcoming anime adaptation relocates the narrative to the contemporary Reiwa period featuring an entirely fresh ensemble of characters.
High School! Kimengumi is a Japanese manga series created and drawn by Motoei Shinzawa. Its predecessor, Third Year Funny-face Club, ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump between October 1980 and April 1982. The main storyline of High School! Kimengumi appeared in the same publication from April 1982 through July 1987. The adaptation included a TV anime that broadcast from October 1985 until September 1987, alongside a feature-length animated movie that debuted in July 1986. A follow-up manga called Flash! Funny-face Club later appeared in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan between 2001 and 2005.
