โ€œDrops of Godโ€ is a renowned Japanese manga centered on the world of wine. The narrative is crafted by Tadashi Agi, the pen name used by the sibling duo Yuko and Shin Kibayashi, with artwork provided by Shu Okimoto. The plot unfolds across two main arcs: the initial one follows the journey of lead character Shizuku Kanzaki and his competitor Issei Tomine as they hunt for the legendary โ€œTwelve Apostlesโ€ vintages, while the follow-up arc delves into the quest for the elusive โ€œDrops of God.โ€ A brief third installment acts as an epilogue, chronicling Shizukuโ€™s post-challenge existence and his mentorship of Isseiโ€™s young daughter.

The manga debuted in Japanโ€™s Weekly Morning magazine in November 2004 and wrapped up its run in June 2014, with the last collected volume released the following month. A follow-up series, โ€œDrops of God: Mariage,โ€ picks up right after the originalโ€™s conclusion, chronicling Shizukuโ€™s international adventures to expand his wine expertise and continue pursuing the โ€œDrops of God.โ€ At its core, this sequel examines the harmonious โ€œmarriageโ€ of wines with various foods, highlighting diverse pairings. It launched serialization on May 28, 2015โ€”shortly following the end of the first seriesโ€”and concluded on October 15, 2020, spanning 26 volumes in total.

In September 2023, on the 13th, a new continuation titled โ€œDrops of God deuxiรจmeโ€ was revealed, starting its run in Weekly Morning on September 21 and finishing on April 18, 2024. Set in the aftermath of โ€œMariage,โ€ it features a more seasoned Shizuku globetrotting and settling in Paris to guide Isseiโ€™s daughter through the intricacies of wine appreciation. This edition was concise, comprising just two volumes.

The โ€œDrops of Godโ€ franchise has achieved remarkable acclaim for its precise depictions of wines, compelling characters, engaging storyline, and stunning visuals, while also gaining notoriety for its profound influence on the international wine industryโ€”particularly boosting sales of the bottles highlighted within its pages. Additionally, it has sparked two live-action television series adaptations.
