Spice and Wolf is a Japanese light novel series authored by Isuna Hasekura and featuring illustrations by Jū Ayakura. A manga version, drawn by Keito Koume, started running in the November 2007 edition of ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh, a magazine aimed at seinen audiences. Yen Press holds the license for the manga and has started bringing out English-language editions. The first anime adaptation, consisting of 12 episodes, ran from January to March 2008, followed by one original video animation (OVA) episode in May 2008. A further OVA arrived in April 2009, serving as a lead-in to the second season, Spice and Wolf II, which delivered another 12 episodes from July through September 2009. Kadokawa Pictures USA and Funimation Entertainment handled the English dubs for both anime seasons. ASCII Media Works also launched two visual novels tied to the franchise for the Nintendo DS, with releases in June 2008 and September 2009. A new anime television adaptation debuted between April and September 2024.
