Unfortunately, the third season of One-Punch Man is encountering the same animation hurdles that plagued its second season’s adaptation.
Despite widespread fan optimism that J.C. Staff would sidestep the production pitfalls from earlier installments, it seems the truth hits harder than any fictional punch. The most recent episode has drawn a flood of backlash over noticeable flaws in Saitama’s animated sequences, sparking widespread concern among the production staff. Shinpei Nagai, the director who once posted his insights on season three after contributing to key episodes, has since wiped his social media presence amid the mounting fan discontent.
Nagai stated the following:
“Um, I have some rather unfortunate news. There are a few people among my followers who are pretending to be allies, but are actually engaging in rage-baiting, so I’ve decided to delete my account. Their actions- such as taking my statements out of context, trying to elicit comments that violate NDAs, or turning them into profit – are unacceptable and cannot be overlooked. I’ve always done my best for the fans with the utmost sincerity, but I’ve come to the conclusion that continuing in this environment is untenable for this project. It’s always the genuine fans who end up suffering the most. I cannot forgive those who tarnish the staff’s honor or exploit the struggles of the creators for profit through hate. Therefore, I will also be deleting my account entirely. I will not create any accounts in the future either. I cannot overlook actions that degrade the work itself, so I ask for your understanding. Honestly, this is taking a toll on my mental health, and it only brings negatives to the work, the staff, and the original creators. Such despicable behavior is unforgivable. To the fans who have been truly kind to me, I want to express my gratitude and apologies. It was truly enjoyable.”
The series is available for streaming on Hulu. In the fall, Crunchyroll will offers the anime in Europe and the Middle East.
The new opening theme “Get No Satisfied!” song is performed by JAM Project with metal group BABYMETAL.
Shinpei Nagai directs the anime.
The ending theme song of One-Punch Man season 3 will be performed by Makoto Furukawa.
The anime will be animated by J.C. Staff who also animated the 2nd season.
Synopsis for the 3rd season:
“Saitama is a hero who only became a hero for fun. After three years of “special training,” he’s become so strong that he’s practically invincible. In fact, he’s too strong—even his mightiest opponents are taken out with a single punch. Alongside Genos, his faithful disciple, Saitama performs his official hero duties as a member of the Hero Association. One day, monsters claiming to be from the Monster Association suddenly appeared, taking a child of Hero Association executive hostage. The S-class heroes gather and plan a raid on the Monster Association hideout to rescue the hostage. Meanwhile, Garou, a “human monster” who was taken by the Monster Association during a battle with the heroes, awakens in the Monster Association hideout.“
The first anime season of the anime premiered in Japan from October to December 2015.
The second season premiered on April 2019.
