From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now, and They Won’t Leave Me Alone is a Japanese light novel series authored by Shigeru Sagazaki, with illustrations provided by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. The story first appeared as a web novel on the user-submitted platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō, starting in November 2020. Square Enix later picked it up and began releasing it in print under their SQEX Novel label in April 2021. A manga version, drawn by Kazuki Satō, launched in Akita Shoten’s seinen digital magazine Dokodemo Young Champion in August 2021. The anime adaptation, produced by Passione and Hayabusa Film, broadcast its first season from April to June 2025, with a second season scheduled to begin in July 2026.

The story centers on Beryl Gardinant, a swordsman in his mid-forties who runs a modest dojo in a remote rural village. He considers himself quite ordinary and unremarkable. One day, a former student visits him and offers him a position as an instructor for the knights of the Liberion Order in the capital city. Though hesitant, Beryl accepts, which brings him back into contact with several of his past pupils. To his surprise, he learns that these former disciples have all achieved extraordinary success and prominence, having built their impressive abilities on the seemingly simple, “countryside” sword techniques he once taught them.
