  • Shiori Izawa as Al Neko
  • Riko Akechi as Tatsurō Ochinpo
  • Tetsu Inada as Landlord

Chainsmoker Cat is a Japanese manga created by Nyan Nyan Factory, who handles both the story and artwork. The series has been running in Kodansha’s seinen magazine Weekly Young Magazine since February 2023. A TV anime adaptation, produced by Bibury Animation Studios, is scheduled to debut in July 2026.

The story centers on Yaniko (also known as Yani), a catgirl residing in a modest apartment complex in contemporary Japan. She is hopelessly addicted to cigarettes, showing little concern for the harm caused to her surroundings, mental state, or loved ones. Practically every yen she earns is funneled into purchasing more smokes; in moments of desperation when packs are out of reach, she scavenges discarded butts or picks up stray cigarettes from the ground. As the narrative unfolds, additional catgirls enter the picture, each grappling with their personal struggles, while their tolerant human landlord puts up with their chaotic behavior. The plot also gradually reveals subtle clues about an ancient feline civilization that once produced its own tobacco.
