Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Tough for Mobs is a Japanese light novel series authored by Yomu Mishima, with illustrations by Monda. It first appeared as a self-published web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō site, starting October 1, 2017, and wrapping up on October 15, 2019, across seven parts and 176 chapters. The series transitioned to printed light novels via Micro Magazine’s GC Novels label, debuting on May 30, 2018. A manga version, adapted by Jun Shiosato, launched serialization on October 5, 2018, and appears under Fujimi Shobo’s Dragon Comics Age imprint. Seven Seas Entertainment handles the English releases for both the light novels and manga. An anime adaptation produced by studio ENGI broadcast from April through June 2022, and its second season is scheduled to debut in 2026.
Story of the novel is as following:
“An ordinary salaryman perishes and awakens reincarnated as Leon Fou Bartfort in the Holfort Kingdom, the setting of an otome game his sister once coerced him into finishing. In this matriarchal society, women hold absolute power, making life especially harsh for insignificant “mob” characters like Leon. Armed with his thorough recollection of the game from his previous existence, Leon aims to upend the established order by acquiring the overpowered artifact Luxion and gaining admission to Holtfort Academy. Though he simply wants a quiet existence and a suitable spouse, his interventions draw him into intricate plots and conspiracies, forcing him to navigate the aristocracy and interact with the game’s central figures.”
