New Cyborg 009 anime‘s official website recently unveiled a teaser trailer for the upcoming series that confirms 2026 release date.
Cyborg 009 is a groundbreaking Japanese science fiction manga crafted by the legendary creator Shotaro Ishinomori. The series appeared across a variety of Japanese publications over the years, such as Monthly Shōnen King, Weekly Shōnen Magazine, Shōnen Big Comic, COM, Shōjo Comic, Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Monthly Shōnen Jump, and Monthly Comic Nora. In 2012, comiXology secured the digital distribution rights to Shotaro Ishinomori’s full body of work, which encompassed Cyborg 009 among other titles.
The storyline centers on nine individuals hailing from different corners of the globe, who are abducted by the sinister Black Ghost organization under the command of the ruthless tyrant Skull. Their goal is to subject these captives to brutal experiments, transforming them into powerful cyborg soldiers to fuel a new era of cyborg-based warfare and generate massive profits. Although Black Ghost successfully enhances the nine into superhuman cyborgs, the organization’s top scientist, Dr. Isaac Gilmore, turns against his employers. He aids the group in breaking free and sparks their rebellion against Skull and Black Ghost. United as the titular nine cyborgs, they dedicate themselves to thwarting Black Ghost’s scheme to ignite the next global conflict by arming wealthy clients with devastating weapons of mass destruction. Following the downfall of Black Ghost, the cyborg team continues their fight against an array of dangers, ranging from deranged inventors and otherworldly entities to long-lost ancient societies.
