During the Made in Abyss Film Concert event held on Sunday, the teaser trailer for Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery) was unveiled.
This marks the opening installment of the upcoming Made in Abyss anime film series. The teaser provides additional details on the production team and confirms that the first movie is slated to premiere in Japanese theaters in fall 2026.

The anime also unveiled a new key visual:
Made in Abyss is a Japanese web manga created by writer and artist Akihito Tsukushi. It has been running on Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma platform since October 2012, with its chapters compiled into 14 tankōbon volumes as of August 2025.
The narrative centers on Riko, a young orphan girl, who discovers and forms a bond with Reg, a boy who is partially robotic. Together, they venture into the mysterious and dangerous “Abyss,” a vast pit extending deep beneath the Earth’s surface, driven by Riko’s desire to explore its depths and locate her missing mother.
The manga inspired an anime television series by studio Kinema Citrus, which broadcast from July to September 2017. This was followed by a sequel movie titled Dawn of the Deep Soul, released in Japanese theaters in January 2020. A second season, known as The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, aired between July and September 2022. A continuation of the anime has been confirmed in the form of a theatrical film series, with the first installment, Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (Awakening Mystery), scheduled for fall 2026.
In the West, a live-action film adaptation entered development in 2021, with Kevin McMullin attached as writer and director.
Additionally, an action RPG titled Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness, developed by Chime Corporation and published by Spike Chunsoft, launched in September 2022.
As of August 2025, the manga series has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide. It received the 52nd Japan Cartoonists Association Award in 2023.
