During a special Haikyu!! livestream broadcast on Sunday, it was revealed that the series’ second finale film, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, has been slated for a theatrical release in Japan come 2027.
The movie will screen alongside Where Monsters Go, a unique anime short that was first introduced by the franchise in March, right when the second sequel was initially unveiled.
The upcoming film picks up the narrative directly following HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the opening chapter of the two-part Haikyu!! Final sequel film initiative. The special “Haikyū!! Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro” will spotlight the high-stakes showdown between Fukurōdani Academy and Mujinazaka High School.
Haikyu!! is a manga series from Japan, created and drawn by Haruichi Furudate. It ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, a publication aimed at young male readers, starting in February 2012 and wrapping up in July 2020. The individual chapters were compiled into 45 collected volumes known as tankōbon. The narrative centers on Shoyo Hinata, an aspiring volleyball star who refuses to let his short height hold him back from achieving excellence in the sport.
The property was adapted into an anime TV show by the studio Production I.G, which premiered on MBS between April and September 2014, featuring 25 episodes. Season two followed from October 2015 through March 2016, also with 25 episodes. The third season ran from October to December 2016, consisting of 10 episodes. For the fourth season, it was divided into two parts and released across January to December 2020, totaling 25 episodes. The story concludes with a pair of anime movies under the banner Haikyu!! Final; the initial installment, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, hit theaters in February 2024, while the concluding chapter, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, is slated for a 2027 debut.
In the North American market, Viz Media holds the rights to publish the manga, and Sentai Filmworks manages the anime’s digital streaming and home video distribution.
The manga and its anime adaptation have earned widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike.
