The Frieren Manga Goes On An Extended Break With No Set Return Date

Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine has revealed that the acclaimed manga series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is entering an extended break with no set return date.

The publication’s editors have stated that this break is designed to allow the manga’s creators to prioritize their physical and mental wellness.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 anime will be released on January 16, 2026.

The 2nd season of the anime will be streamed by Crunchyroll.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a Japanese manga penned by Kanehito Yamada and brought to life with illustrations by Tsukasa Abe. This captivating series has been featured in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday since its debut in April 2020, with its chapters compiled into 14 tankōbon volumes as of March 2025. Viz Media holds the English license for North America, while Shogakukan Asia distributes it across Southeast Asia.

Set in a richly imagined fantasy realm, the story centers on Frieren, a timeless elven mage, as she embarks on a poignant quest to the realm of souls to reconnect with her late comrade Himmel, a member of the Hero Party that once vanquished the Demon King.

An anime adaptation, crafted by Madhouse, aired its first season of 28 episodes from September 2023 to March 2024.
