BanG Dream!, also referred to as Bandori!, is a vibrant Japanese music media franchise under the ownership of Bushiroad. Conceived by Bushiroad president Takaaki Kidani in January 2015 with an original narrative crafted by Kō Nakamura, it debuted as a manga before blossoming into a multifaceted universe. The franchise now encompasses an anime series, live musical performances, music releases, VTuber content, and the widely popular mobile rhythm game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!, developed by Craft Egg.
At its core, the franchise revolves around all-female bands, with their members doubling as voice actresses for both the anime and mobile game. As of 2025, the project boasts ten distinct groups, seven of which are skilled at performing their characters’ instruments, and eight that appear in the mobile game. The inaugural band, Poppin’Party, was established in February 2015, followed by the introduction of Roselia, Afterglow, Pastel Palettes, and Hello, Happy World! in 2017 alongside the mobile game’s launch. In 2018, a supporting band known as The Third was rebranded as Raise A Suilen, officially joining the lineup, with Morfonica debuting in 2020. The franchise expanded further in 2022 with the addition of MyGO!!!!!, Ave Mujica, and Mugendai Mewtype. For live shows, the voice actresses of Poppin’Party, Roselia, Raise A Suilen, Morfonica, MyGO!!!!!, Ave Mujica, and Mugendai Mewtype perform their own instruments, while the remaining bands focus solely on vocals.
The anime, centered on fictionalized versions of these bands, spans three seasons, each with 13 episodes. The first season, a collaboration between Issen (OLM with Bushiroad) and Xebec, aired from January to April 2017. Sanzigen helmed production for the second and third seasons, which aired in winter 2019 and 2020, respectively. The franchise also ventured into cinema with BanG Dream! Film Live in 2019, followed by Film Live 2nd Stage in 2021. Additionally, three band-centric films were released: the two-part Episode of Roselia in 2021 and BanG Dream! Poppin’Dream! in 2022.
Spin-off anime series further enrich the franchise, including BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Pico, along with its sequels Pico: Ohmori and Pico Fever!, produced by Sanzigen and DMM.futureworks, as well as Pastel Life by Studio A-Cat. An anime focused on MyGO!!!!!, titled BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!, aired from June to September 2023. Its follow-up, centered on Ave Mujica, titled BanG Dream! Ave Mujica, ran from January to March 2025. A sequel connecting both It’s MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica has been announced, promising further adventures in this dynamic musical world.
