Film director who is responsible for legendary anime films like Your Name, Weathering With You, Makoto Shinkai acknowledged a prize at Kodansha’s debut Noda Publishing Culture Award service on Tuesday for his commitments to the publishing world.
The novelization he wrote of his most recent film Weathering With You beat Oricon’s general bunko positioning outline with 511,159 duplicates. It is the second time Shinkai has topped that graph, after his Your Name. novel achieved the accomplishment three years prior.
Makoto Shinkai after the award commented:
“This was a big year for films. We made your. name and Weathering With You, but in the overwhelming face of Disney and Hollywood, I’ve been wondering what kind of works we should create and what we can accomplish.”
GKIDS has authorized the film for North America, and will give the film a “grants qualifying” showy run for the current year before a more extensive screening with captions and an English dub starting on January 17.
“The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…”
