Weathering With You anime film won the Best Animated Feature Film grant at the thirteenth Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane, Australia on Thursday. Hiroyasu Ishida’s Penguin Highway film was likewise designated for the honor.

The two anime contended with Kirby Atkins’ Mosley, Oh Sung-yoon’s Underdog, and Behzad Nalbandi’s The Unseen movies.

Weathering With You and Penguin Highway films screened for nothing in Brisbane on November 16 and 17.

The Wethering With You film opened in 359 theaters and 448 screens in Japan on July 19. The last Japanese film to acquire more than 10 billion yen was Shinkai’s past film Your Name. three years back.

The film sold 1,159,020 tickets for 1,643,809,400 yen around US$15.22 million in its first three days in quite a while. The film positioned #1 in its opening end of the week.

GKIDS has authorized the film for North America, and will give the film a “grants qualifying” showy run for the current year before a more extensive screening with captions and an English dub starting on January 17.

GKIDS portrays the film:

“The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-­willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…”
