The Sword Art Online franchise has unveiled on their 10th year anniversary event that the franchise will get a brand new original anime film.

The event also unveiled a new video sequence:

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light original series composed by Reki Kawahara and represented by abec. The series happens in near future and spotlights on heroes Kazuto Kirito Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki as they play through different augmented experience MMORPG universes. Kawahara initially composed the series as a web novel on his site from 2002 to 2008. The light novels started distribution on ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint from April 10, 2009, with a side project series sending off in October 2012. The series has brought forth twelve manga transformations distributed by ASCII Media Works and Kadokawa.

The novels and the manga variations have been authorized for discharge in North America by Yen Press.

An anime TV series delivered by A-1 Pictures, circulated in Japan among July and December 2012, with a TV film Sword Art Online. The 2nd season premiered among July and December 2014. An animated film named Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale, highlighting a unique story by Kawahara, debuted in Japan and Southeast Asia on February 18, 2017, and was delivered in the US on Walk 9, 2017. A side project anime series named Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online debuted in April 2018, while a third season named Sword Art Online: Alicization broadcasted from October 2018 to September 2020. An anime film titled Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night debuted on October 30, 2021.

Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of a Dark Dusk anime film premiered on October 22.
