Genya is once again at the heart of the action in Demon Slayer season 3, but the most recent episode of the anime left Genya on his deadliest cliffhanger yet as he appears to be in danger of passing away.
Fans have finally seen what Genya can do in a fight as he’s not in the thick of the action against a member of Muzan Kibutsuji’s Upper Ranks. Genya was one of the many familiar characters brought back to the anime after he originally had a run-in with Tanjiro back in Demon Slayer’s first season.
Genya’s combat abilities have been partially displayed in Demon Slayer season 3, although he has been suffering greatly from the war against Hantengu’s Emotion Demons, much like Tanjiro and Nezuko have. Genya has, however, suffered the most damage to date in the most recent episode of Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc, as the episode concludes with Genya pulling off a significant save that leaves him bleeding and full of enormous holes.
Tanjiro and Genya continue to battle Hantengu’s feelings in Demon Slayer season 3 episode 6, but Tanjiro soon discovers the secret to defeating the demon. Tanjiro initially found Genya’s demonic change to be frightening, but after it became evident that Genya posed no real threat, Tanjiro was only too happy to assist. Genya is ultimately caught off surprise by Tanjiro’s purity, but this happens just when it shouldn’t because Hantengu’s emotions are already out of control.
Genya is on the verge of passing away when Tanjiro is able to rouse him and start him moving again. When Tanjiro is attacked instead, it’s a surprise for everyone when Genya intervenes to save him. However, Genya is bloodied and in critical condition when Tanjiro turns around to check on her. Even if the damage is serious, he may be able to recover from it because Genya hinted that he has a demonic recovery capacity as long as he doesn’t lose his head.
