Genya Shinazugawa was initially introduced to the series in the first season of Demon Slayer, and the most recent Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc episode addressed the tragic origin tale of Genya.

For the most recent significant battle against Muzan Kibutsuji’s Upper Ranks, Demon Slayer Season 3 has brought some familiar characters back to the Demon Slayer anime, and Genya continues to be one of the more enigmatic fighters as he really hasn’t let Tanjiro near, and when his demonic form was revealed, he became much more enigmatic.

The more Genya fights alongside Tanjiro, the more new sides of him emerge, but the most recent episode offered the most in-depth look at Genya to date. When Genya believes he is going to pass away during Demon Slayer Season 3’s battle with Hantengu’s Emotion Demons, he really remembers the sad event that led him to his present course toward turning into a Hashira.

In Demon Slayer Season 3 anime’s most recent episode which is the 6th one, Genya remembers his difficult early years with his brother, the Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. Sanemi and Genya were left to care for the rest of their family alone when their abusive father passed away. While they were close, when a demon unexpectedly attacked their family and killed the rest of their siblings, things changed. When the morning rises, Sanemi is able to save Genya, but she also realizes something even more awful.

Sanemi was compelled to kill his own mother in order to save his younger brother because it turns out that the demon who attacked their family was actually their mother. Genya accuses Sanemi of murdering their mother, but Genya doesn’t understand that Sanemi had no choice because he is also a Demon Slayer. Genya actually desires to become a Hashira as well in order to one day communicate with Sanemi and mend fences.
