Even though Deku is headed to become the next Symbol of Peace, he must go through some difficult times in My Hero Academia in order to save Hero Society.

Viewers of the anime version saw Izuku Midoriya adopt a much darker strategy in the sixth season of the show to combat villainy. Now that Deku has once again had to visit the dark side in recent chapters of the shonen manga, series creator Kohei Horikoshi has given Midoriya’s most recent incarnation an official name.

Horikoshi hasn’t been shy about hinting that this is the last fight between the villains of the League of Villains and the youthful heroes of Class 1-A, meaning that My Hero Academia’s days are running out. While One For All and All For One spar via Midoriya and Shigaraki, the final arc has already wrapped up some of the major issues to far, without going too far into spoiler zone. Deku had always hoped that the inheritor of All For One still has some hope, but given Shigaraki’s history of heinous deeds, it doesn’t seem possible that the current big villain will find redemption.

Kohei Horikoshi revealed that Deku’s sinister new form was Deku Overlay in a recent Weekly Shonen Jump article, but in his imagination, it was Carnage. He has never concealed his passion for North American comic books throughout his artistic career, especially when it came to Marvel’s in-house symbiotes.
