The dramatic series of decisive battles for the future of the Clover Kingdom have begun with Black Clover, and the most recent installment revealed what the worst possible scenario for Yuno and the others without Asta may be.

Asta suffered a significant loss and appeared to have died at the hands of the Paladins in the opening moments of the Black Clover manga’s final arc, which was launched by a surprise attack from Lucius Zogratis. Thankfully, he made it through and has even become stronger as a result, but it turns out that without Asta, things could have turned out far worse for the future.

Throughout the course of the final arc, Asta has successfully surprised Lucius in a variety of ways, but the antagonist has come to understand during his battle with Yuno that Asta is far more significant than he gives him credit for. Lucius believed that eliminating Asta from the Judgment Day fight would be sufficient, but it has turned out that Asta’s influence on those around him has improved the battle’s outcome. The losses at risk in Lucius’ anticipated futures were much greater.

Lucius is amazed that Yuno has been able to match his own powers as well as he has so far in Black Clover Chapter 360. Lucius makes the comment that Yuno shouldn’t even have this amount of power at this point. The only scenario in which Yuno could have reached this level of strength in the possible futures he glimpsed prior to this fight is one in which he remained in the Spade Kingdom and progressively developed over years to master his Star Magic. It stands in stark contrast to the Yuno who developed his skills in less than a year.

Yuno, though, is more powerful than that. Other dire predictions include that Noelle wouldn’t have developed as rapidly as she did, that Mereoleona Vermillion should have died instantaneously in her own battle with Paladin Morris, that Fuegoleon would already be long dead by this point, and that the Magic Knights would have been destroyed. It’s all thanks to Asta’s influence encouraging people to fight harder, and thanks to Asta, the world is one where Lucius’ abilities cannot predict the future. The fact that Asta and the others will escape this battle is indeed encouraging, yet that same uncertainty may very well be their fate.

Black Clover manga’s chapter 361 will be released on June 11, 2023.

Black Clover is a Japanese manga series created by the famous Yūki Tabata. Black Clover has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since February 2015, with its chapters gathered in 32 tankōbon volumes as of April 2022.
