The staff of the Anime NYC show declared on Wednesday on their official Twitter account that GKIDS will screen Makoto Shinkai’s new film Weathering With You as the end film of the show.
The screening will be the film‘s East Coast debut.
The Weathering With You film will open in North America on January 17.
Toronto International Film Festival facilitated the North American debut of Weathering With You as a feature of its Special Presentations class, with screenings on September 8, 10, and 14.
Hawaiโi International Film Festival will also screen the Weathering With You film as its end film on November 17.
The Weathering With You film opened in 359 theaters and 448 screens in Japan on July 19. The last Japanese film to acquire more than 10 billion yen was Shinkaiโs past film Your Name. three years back.
Weathering With You film is as yet solid at Japanese film industry. The film has so far earned 13.51 billion yen (about US$126 million) from its 12-week run, which has outperformed the complete film industry gross of E.T. (1982) and Armageddon (1989), both made 13.5 billion yen in Japan.
